Four FBM students in lab-coats working on bioreactors in the Fermentation Core at DTU Bioengineering

Welcome

to the FBM Initiative

The Fermentation Based Biomanufacturing Initiative provides research-based expert education in fermentation on Master-, PhD-, and professional level.

Founded by DTU Bioengineering, DTU Chemical Engineering and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability at DTU, in collaboration with several industry partners, and funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Read more about FBM.

Welcome

to the FBM Initiative

The FBM initiative aims to boost the application of fermentation based biomanufacturing to accelerate the transition from petrochemical based production towards biobased production, a circular economy, and a sustainable future.

Therefore, FBM researchers work on optimizing existing processes, developing new technologies, and engage in the education of new generations of fermentation experts.

Welcome

to the FBM Initiative

Characteristic of the FBM education is the integration of cell-factory engineering and bioreactor engineering, which generates fermentation experts with in-depth knowledge of both, technology and production organisms.

It covers all stages of industrial R&D – from molecule discovery in lab-scale, to proof of concept in the pilot facility, and full-scale production with our industry partners.
